So describe Logan for me, because I find him hard to sum up.
He’s the son of a movie star; he kind of has that mentality. He grew up with that. He started off determined to make Veronica’s life a living hell, but that developed into this funny chemistry, then love and romance. Now there’s this triangle with Duncan and Logan and Veronica. So many things have happened along the way to give the audience insight into how he got to be the way he is and why he acts the way he does, how he got the motivation to act like such a complicated human being. When we did the original auditions, they gave me a couple of [Logan-acts-like-a-jerk] scenes, then I also got a scene where he’s burned by a cigarette lighter by his dad. It was intense and emotional. Rob wanted to see not just me playing the [jerk] but also if I could play the softer side. It gave me a chance to do both. It didn’t come out until a little bit later in the show, but [eventually] you got to see why he could be such a [jerk] and also how he’s just in this terrible situation.

Logan always seems to have a knee-jerk reaction to whatever happens, like he can’t contain himself or take a minute to figure out the rational response.

Absolutely, and that’s the cause of many terrible situations for him. But I like that impulsiveness, I like that trait in him. It can lead to a lot of other stories for him.

Did you know, last season, that Logan and Veronica were going to get together?

I’m actually glad, Rob told us about episode six or seven that we would get together. We were like, ‘No way!’ But there was something going on there. We could feel it as actors. It was damn cool — these characters had some kind of connection. So we had to start to soften it up a little bit and break the ice somewhat [between the characters]. I’m glad he gave us that heads up.

That kiss near the end of last season — the spark was amazing.

It was so funny, as an actor, to kiss this girl. I was all nervous beforehand. But you have to just let it go for the scene. It was so fun to watch [later when it aired]. Sometimes I’m working late, and I have to catch [the show] later, but [he watches the show every week when it airs]. Kristin is just so amazing;, in the last episode that aired [he was referring to the Oct. 19 episode, ‘Green-Eyed Monster.’], she’s just so free. She’s so smart. And I laugh out loud when I watch it. It’s great to watch with other people. I rarely get the chance but it’s great to hear everyone bust out laughing. We’re going to be going down to Texas, a few of us. They’re going to show this marathon of episodes, fans are going to rent it and we’re going to all watch it live with this audience in this great theater in Texas. It’s where Tarantino has his film festival and stuff like that. It’s down where Rico’s [Enrico Colantoni] from. It’ll be terrific.

So, it must have been a drag to find out that Logan and Veronica are not together this year.

I had no idea what was coming. I didn’t know who was at the door [in the first-season finale]. Nobody really knew who was at the door until we got the first script [for the second season], then it was so clever. She’s with Logan, but then she’s not with him. It goes beyond who’s at the door. It gives Veronica and Duncan a chance to be together; it sets up some good tension for my guy.

Logan gets a lot of great lines, a lot of the zingers.

I love that. It is so fun. There were some racial jokes [last season]; I know we’ve had to ease off on that a little bit. I think we got involved in a little trouble over that. It wasn’t too big a deal.

Was it cool to get that endorsement from “Buffy,” “Angel” and “Firefly” creator Joss Whedon?

Absolutely, it was the best. It was the buzz of the set: `Did you hear what he said about us?,’ Stuff like that. [Director] Kevin Smith also did a nice write-up, and what was cool was that they really know their stuff;, their attention to detail [regarding `Veronica Mars’] was so cool. You never know if your work will be seen, so to have it seen by someone great, someone you really respect, that’s so cool. Though if I’d known they were watching, I would have been a lot more nervous!

Why do you think fans are so into the show?

It inspires passion. It’s dark. It’s got these intense relationships; you can really emotionally root for certain characters. You just want to hold Veronica. The damage that’s been done to her just tugs at your heartstrings. When she pleaded with her dad to find her mom — that just makes you feel so much for her. You want to see her win. There’s the relationship between her and her dad. Just the core things, the emotional aspect of it, is what holds people. There are the story lines too; they’re interesting, but it’s people going through life. The closer we get to real life [the more effective it is]. Everyone has those emotions, so we all respond to that.

Can you tell me anything about what’s coming up or will Rob Thomas break your leg?

[laughs] We get certain things, certain giveaways, `You can say this, not that.’ So I can say that Logan’s dad is coming back in one episode. That’s a cool, intense show.

The relationship between Logan and Veronica is obviously very different this season.

If you’ve been together with someone, you can’t go back to where you were before. If she had to help me again, how can I ask her for something? It sets up this weird situation, really different from the first season. He cried in front of her, he’s been open in front of her, she knows things. You can’t go back from that. [In Logan’s mind] she maybe could have told somebody [his private business]. It’s really bad for him; he thinks he can trust her, then it’s over. Deep down, he has integrity — he does, in a way. They respect each others’ integrity, but it’s more than integrity; it’s principles, beliefs.

What’s it like working with [star] Kristin Bell?

I love to act with her. There’s still that tension [between the characters]. I don’t know what they’re going to do with Logan; part of him still loves her. I don’t think the thing with Kendall is for emotional support [laughs]. But any love is better than no love. The thing is, who do you trust, when you have all that money? What do you do? That’s Neptune.

So Alyson Hannigan has been back as your sister Trina Echolls, right?

Yeah, we were all so happy this morning when we shot that scene — it was great. Alyson is back; Charisma [Carpenter] was here as well. We had a scene with us [Trina, Logan and Veronica] and Teddy [who plays Duncan Kane]. It was great: My older sister is there, and I’m having this affair with Kendall; it makes for some intense tension. But it was great, so funny. We all had a great time; it was cool to see that they [Charisma and Alyson] still had that flow, that connection. They have an energy together. They have that history. There’s a huge twist for Trina in this [Nov. 23] episode — it’s amazing. It’s not just a normal twist. It’s written so well, but I can’t explain it. You gotta and wait and watch it. It’s a great story line. They shot most of Alyson’s stuff today and yesterday. I really look forward to seeing [the episode]. We all really like this girl [Alyson]. We get together and just tease each other, she sucker-punches me. There’s just a total, I don’t know, we really have a sister-brother thing going on. I’ve never had that kind of connection with an actress before. It totally works.She loves doing the show, but then she hates it because she finds out all these things that are in upcoming episodes. We get to explain it to her: `This is what happens, then that.’ She’s like, `No way!’ But then she also loves to watch it and find out things [like everyone else].

I think the show’s been even better this year than last.

It’s going to get even better. A lot of seeds have been planted.

Potresti descrivere Logan per me? Lo trovo un po’ difficile da interpretare

E’ il figlio di una star del cinema; quindi è cresciuto un po’ con quella mentalità, insomma è cresciuto in quel mondo. All’inizio sembra che voglia trasformare la vita di Veronica in un infermo, ma infine si sviluppa una certa intesa che poi sfocia nel romanticismo e nell’amore. Ora c’è in ballo il triangolo tra Veronica Logan e Duncan. Durante lo sviluppo del telefilm sono successe tante cose che hanno portato il pubblico a capire come si comporta, il suo modo di fare, insomma, ciò che lo compongono come essere umano nella sua complessità. Quando abbiamo fatto le audizioni originali, mi avevano dato da interpretare delle scene in cui sembrava un po’ stupido  . Successivamente  ho fatto una scena in cui veniva bruciato con il mozzicone di una sigaretta dal padre. Una scena molto intensa. Rob voleva vedermi interpretare non solo il suo lato più stupido, ma anche quello più sensibile. Mi ha dato l’opportunità di interpretare tutte e due le parti. Nello show il lato soft è uscito solo dopo, però allo stesso tempo si è  potuto vedere com’è quando fa lo stupido oppure quando gli succedono cose terribili.

Logan sembra avere  sempre delle reazioni esagerate a ciò che gli succede, come se non si sapesse contenere o prendersi un minuto per capire che conseguenze avranno le sue reazioni.

Assolutamente e questa è anche la causa di molte cose che gli accadono, ma mi piace la sua impulsività. Adoro questo lato di lui. Lo portano a molte altre storie…

Sai, la scorsa stagione Logan e Veronica stavano per mettersi insieme no?

Si e ne sono felice. Rob ci aveva informati che ci saremmo messi insieme verso l’episodio 6 o 7, però non eravamo molto d’accordo. Ma qualcosa era già nell’aria. Come attori lo percepivamo. È stato fantastico- si vedeva che c’era feeling tra i due. Così in qualche modo abbiamo dovuto pian piano rompere il ghiaccio. Sono contento che alla fine abbia deciso di sviluppata così

Il bacio verso la fine delle stagione, sai è stato fantastico, si vedevano scintille!!

Come attore baciare questa ragazza è stato divertente. Ero nervosissimo, ma ho dovuto lascarmi andare per la scena. È stato buffo rivedermi quando l’hanno trasmesso. A volte lavoro fino a tardi e quindi non faccio in tempo a vederlo ( lo registro sempre però). Kristen è fantastica, nell’ ultimo episodio trasmesso ( si riferisce all’episodio Green-Eyed Monster) , il mostro dagli occhi verdi” era così libera e intelligente. Ho riso tantissimo nel vedere la puntata. È bello vederlo con altre persone, non lo faccio spesso, ma è bello sentirli ridere come matti. Alcuni di noi stanno andando in Texas, trasmetteranno la maratona degli episodi, i fan li affitteranno e li guarderemo tutti insieme in questo grande teatro in Texas. È il luogo in cui Tarantino ha fatto il suo film festival e cose così. È da dove viene Enrico Colantoni, deve essere spaventoso

Così deve essere stato uno shock sapere che Logan e Veronica non staranno insieme quest’anno…

Non so cosa succederà…non sapevo nemmeno chi fosse alla porta ( si riferisce all’ultima scena dell’ultima puntata della prima stagione). Nessuno lo sapeva con certezza finchè non abbiamo avuto in mano il copione della seconda stagione. Che genialata! Credi che stia con Logan, ma dopo scopri che non è così. È una cosa che va al di la di “ chi era alla porta” e da una nuova occasione a Veronica e Duncan…si creerà molta tensione per il mio personaggio.

Logan ha un sacco di battute fantastiche…

Adoro questa cosa, mi diverto tantissimo nel dirle. L’anno scorso dovevamo fare alcune battute sulle razze differenti!! Abbiamo dovuto smussarle un po’,perché so ci sono stati alcuni problemi  ma non era nulla di che!

Com’è avere l’appoggio dal creatore di Buffy, Angel e Firefly , ovvero Joss Whedon?

E’stata assolutamente una cosa fantastica! Sai cos’ha detto di noi??? (Sul regista Kevin Smith) ha fatto un ottimo lavoro, e la cosa impressionante è che sanno veramente quello che fanno, la loro attenzione per i dettagli è pazzesca. Non sai mai se il suo lavoro verrà riconosciuto, deve essere visto da qualcuno che lo comprenda , che lo rispetti per quel che merita.  Se avessi saputo che lo guardavano sarei stato sicuramente più nervoso

Perché secondo te i fan si sono così appassionati allo show?
“Ti fa appassionare, è misterioso, ha delle relazioni  molto intense, e così ti ancori ad alcuni personaggi a livello emotivo. A volte ti viene quasi da abbracciare Veronica, le cose che ha dovuto subire ti stringono il cuore…quando è in cerca di sua mamma, ti senti così vicino a lei, vorresti tanto che lei vinca la sua battaglia. Poi c’è la relazione con il padre…l’aspetto emozionale che c’è tra loro fa sentire le persone unite. Infine ci sono le altre storie, che sono si emozionanti ma parlano di persone che affrontano la vita. Abbiamo cercato di renderlo il più vicino alla vita reale possibile. Tutti hanno quelle  emozioni che cerchiamo di riprodurre  sul piccolo schermo, e quindi la gente si appassiona e si sente coinvolta.”

Puoi spifferarmi qualcosa sulle prossime puntate o Rob Thomas ti spezza le gambe??

 (ride)…ci dicono cosa possiamo dire e cosa no…quindi per ora posso solo dirti che il padre di Logan tornerà in un episodio…sarà molto intenso

Naturalmente la relazione tra Logan e Veronica sarà molto diversa in questa stagione…

Se hai avuto una relazione con una persona non puoi più tornare a come eravate prima. Se dovrà aiutarlo ancora, in che modo potrà farlo?? Si è creata questa situazione molto diversa dalla prima stagione. Davanti a lei lui ha pianto, si è aperto, e quindi inevitabilmente lei sa anche delle cose personali. Non puoi tornare indietro a tutto questo come se nulla fosse successo. Nella mente di Logan ci potrebbe anche essere il pensiero che lei abbia detto qualcosa a qualcuno. Si fidava di lei e poi è finita. Logan sotto sotto è un tipo onesto…Entrambi rispettano la loro onestà, ma non si tratta solo di questo, ma anche di valori e credenze.”

Com’è lavorare con Kristen Bell??

Adoro lavorare con lei. Tra i personaggi c’è ancora un po’ di tensione, non so cosa ne faranno di Logan, una parte di lui l’ama ancora. Non penso che Kendall gli dia proprio quell’appoggio emotivo ( ride). Ma ogni amore è meglio che non averne nessuno. Il punto è: di chi ti puoi fidare quando hai tutti quei soldi? Che fai a quel punto?? Questa è Neptune in fin dei conti”.

Alyson Hannigan è tornata per interpretare il ruolo di tua sorella, Trina Echolls, vero??
Eravamo tutti così contenti stamattina nel girare la scena…è stato fantastico, Alyson è tornata!! C’era anche Charisma Carpenter, abbiamo girato questa scena tra Trina, Logan Veronica e Duncan. Fantastico…mia sorella è tornata e io ho questa relazione con Kendall, ci sarà alta tensione, ma è stato bellissimo girare, molto divertente. Ci siamo divertiti tutti…è bello vedere che Alyson e Charisma hanno ancora quell’intesa grazie ai lavori a cui hanno partecipato insieme in precedenza. Nel prossimo episodio ci sarà un grande cambiamento per Trina, una cosa molto importante, è scritto molto bene ma non posso spiegarlo. Dovrete aspettare e guardarlo…ma è una bella storia. Ci hanno mostrato queste cose tra ieri e oggi, non vedo l’ora di vedere l’episodio”. Tutti noi adoriamo Alyson,  noi due ci siamo presi totalmente, abbiamo questa sorta di relazione fratello-sorella che non mi era mai capitata prima d’ora con un’attrice. Funziona benissimo. Ama lavorare qua e allo stesso tempo lo odia perché dobbiamo spiegargli la trama che si andrà a svolgere…a volte rimane scioccata e non ci crede. Ma poi alla fine si diverte a rivedere le puntate e scoprire nuovi dettagli ( come tutti noi)”.

Penso che quest’anno lo show sia ancora meglio dell’anno precedente.

Descríbeme a Logan , porque me parece difícil resumirlo .

Es hijo de una estrella de cine. Tiene su mentalidad, porque ha crecido con eso. Está decidido a hacer de la vida de Verónica un infierno, pero surge una química tan divertida entre ambos que desemboca en una historia de amor. Ahora existe un triángulo entre Duncan , Logan y  Verónica. Así que han ocurrido muchas cosas que muestran a la audiencia por qué él es como es y por qué actúa como lo hace , dentro de lo complicado que puede ser un ser humano.
Cuando hicimos las primeras pruebas para el papel , me dieron un par de escenas de “Logan-actúa-como-un-capullo” . Entonces tuve también una escena en la que Logan es quemado por su padre con la brasa de un cigarrillo. Fue muy intenso y emotivo. Rob no quería que me limitara a interpretar al chico imbécil , pues pensó que también podía encarnar su lado más sensible . Me dio la oportunidad de interpretar los dos . No aparecí en la serie de inmediato , pero en cualquier caso , ves por qué Logan puede llegar a ser tan estúpido y por qué se encuentra en una situación tan terrible.

Logan parece que siempre tiene una reacción impulsiva y visceral para todo lo que pasa  , como si no pudiera contenerse o tomarse un minuto para adoptar una respuesta racional.

Estoy de acuerdo , y esa es la causa de que se vea en muchas situaciones terribles .Pero me gusta , no obstante , esa impulsividad Ese rasgo le conduce a un montón de historias.

¿ Sabías , en la pasada temporada , que  Logan y Verónica iban a estar juntos ?

Estoy contento con eso. Rob nos contó que, sobre el episodio 6 ó 7 , estaríamos juntos . Nosotros dijimos “ ¡ imposible ! Pero fue algo progresivo que , como actores , podíamos sentir , porque entre los personajes hay una especie de conexión . De modo que empezamos poquito a poco , suavizando las cosas y rompiendo el hielo de alguna manera. Me alegro de que (Rob) nos diera directrices.

El beso , casi al final de la temporada fue asombroso . Saltaban chispas .

Fue muy divertido, como actor, besar a esta chica . De antemano, estaba muy nervioso, pero te tienes que dejar llevar para la escena. Fue muy curioso y divertido verlo cuando fue emitido. Algunas veces , trabajo hasta tarde y pillo la serie ya empezada [ Ve la serie cuando se emite ] pero Kristin es tan asombrosa … En el último episodio emitido [se refiere al de 19 de Octubre titulado “El demonio de ojos verdes” ] estaba tan suelta … Es muy lista. Me rio a carcadas cuando veo la serie . Es genial verla en compañía . Ráramente tengo la oportunidad , pero es estupendo ver como otras personas estallan en carcajadas .
Vamos a ir uno cuantos a Texas .Van a hacer una maratón de episodios y los vamos a ver en vivo con la audiencia en un gran teatro. Es donde  Tarantino hace su festival de  cine y todo eso. De allí es de donde procede Rico ( Enrico Colantoni ) Va a ser tremendo.

Debe de ser un palo encontraros con que Logan y Verónica no siguen juntos este año.

No tenía ni idea de lo que iba a pasar. No sabía quién estaba tras la puerta en el final de la primera temporada. Nadie lo sabía hasta que tuvimos el primer guión[para la segunda temporada ]. Eso fue muy inteligente. Ella está con Logan, pero entonces ya no lo está. Va más allá de quién hay detrás de la puerta .Le da a Verónica y Duncan la oportunidad de estar juntos y también una buena dosis de tensión a mi personaje.
Logan tiene un montón de frases buenas ….
Adoro eso. Es muy divertido. Hubo algunos chistes de índole racial  [la pasada temporada] y sé que hemos tenido que aligerar un poco ese aspecto o hubiéramos tenido problemas. No hubiéramos hecho un buen negocio con ello. 

¿ Fue bueno tener el respaldo de Joss Whedon , el creador de “Buffy” y de “Angel” ?

Fue lo mejor .Fue el cotilleo que circulaba por el set  : “ ¿Has oído lo que ha dicho de nosotros “? y cosas de ese estilo. Kevin Smith [el director ] también hizo una buena reseña , y lo que fue guay es que ellos realmente sabían de qué hablaban . La atención que prestaron a los detalles , viendo VM , fue genial. Nunca sabes si tu trabajo va a ser visto ; así que el que lo vea alguien grande , alguien a quien respetas , es maravilloso ¡ Aunque si hubiera sabido que lo veían hubiera estado aún más nervioso !

¿ Por qué crees que los fans se han metido tanto en la serie?

Porque inspira pasión , porque tiene un punto oscuro y relaciones muy intensas .Puedes apoyar emocionalmente a algunos personajes. Quieres apoyar a Verónica. Todo el daño que se le ha hecho te toca la fibra sensible. Cuando suplica a su padre que encuentre a su madre , hace que sientas un montón de cosas por ella. Quieres verla salir victoriosa.La relación con su padre , el núcleo de ésta , su aspecto emotivo , ya de por sí engancha a la gente. Hay líneas argumentales muy interesantes , claro, pero la gente las enfoca desde la perspectiva de la vida real . Cuanto más nos acercamos a la vida real más efectivo resulta .Todos tenemos esos sentimientos y emociones , así que todos respondemos a eso.

¿ Me puedes contra algo de lo que va a pasar sin peligro de que Rob Thomas te rompa las piernas ?

Risas] Tenemos ciertas consignas de lo que podemos y no podemos decir .Puedo decirte que el padre de Logan regresa en un episodio que va  a ser muy intenso.

La relación entre Logan y  Verónica es obviamente muy diferente .

Si has estado con alguien , no puedes volver como si nada al momento anterior a ello. Si tuviera que ayudarme de nuevo ¿ cómo podría pedirle ayuda ? Es una situación rara , muy diferente de la primera temporada. Ha llorado delante de ella , se ha abierto con ella , que sabe muchas cosas de él . No puedes volver atrás después de todo eso. En la mente de Logan está la idea de que ella puede haberle contado a alguien todas sus cosas. Es muy duro para él . Piensa que puede confiar en ella y , entonces , la cosa acaba .En lo más hondo , es un tío íntegro que respeta que los demás lo sean; pero también es algo más que una cuestión de integridad , lo es  también de principios y creencias

¿ Cómo es trabajar con Kristin Bell?

Me encanta trabajar con ella. Aún existe tensión entre los personajes. No sé qué piensan hacer con Logan. Parte de él sigue amándola. Y no creo que en el rollo que tiene con Kendall esté buscando apoyo emocional [ risas ]. Pero algo de amor es mejor que nada . La cosa es ¿ en quién puedes confiar cuando tienes tanto dinero ?¿ Qué haces? Eso es Neptune.

Alyson Hannigan , tu hermana Trina Echolls ha regresado ¿no?

Sí. Esta mañana estábamos muy contentos en el rodaje . Alyson está de vuelta , Charisma está aquí … Hemos tenido una escena con Trina, Logan , Veronica y Duncan . Fue genial : Mi hermana mayor está allí y yo tengo ese affaire con Kendall; es algo muy tenso . Pero estuvo bien y fue divertido .Nos lo pasamos bien . Fue guay ver como ellas  [Charisma y  Alyson]aún tienen esa conexión. Son pura energía. Hay un giro enorme para el personaje de Trina en el episodio del 23 de Noviembre . Es asombroso y no puede llamarse un giro argumental ordinario.Está muy bien escrito , pero no puedo contarlo. Tendréis que esperar para verlo. Ayer y hoy filmaron la mayor parte de las escenas de Alyson. Espero ansiosamente ver el episodio.
A todos nos gusta esta chica [Alyson].Estamos juntos y nos enseñamos uno a otro, me sorprende con golpes inesperados. No sé , pero pienso que tenemos una auténtica relación hermana-hermano. Nunca antes había tenido esa clase de conexión con un actriz. Realmente funciona.
Ella adora trabajar en la serie , pero también lo odia porque descubre lo que va a pasar en los próximos capìtulos . Le explicamos “esto es lo que pasa “ y ella dice “ de ninguna manera “ , pero le gusta mirar y descubrir cosas como a todo el mundo.

Creo que la serie va a ser este año incluso  mejor que el anterior .

Lo va a ser . Ya hemos sembrado lo necesario para que sea así.
