UGO: So you went from one fangirl-crazy show to another massively successful fangirl-crazy show.

JASON DOHRING: I know! How lucky am I, right?

UGO: Do you think a lot of that fandom for Moonlight carried over from Veronica Mars?

JASON: Dude, I wasn’t sure what [the success of Veronica Mars] would be. And whenever anyone says the words “Veronica Mars,” it felt insane. It felt so cool to be able to touch some lives. I felt quite lucky at that stage. And what’s great is the new DVDs, and everyone will be able to see it, and their children will be able to see it.

UGO: So would you do another Veronica Mars project, like if they did a movie?

JASON: Perhaps, but we’re getting a bit old, dude, aren’t we? I mean I imagine we’d have to do it somewhat soon, dude, if we were gonna do it.

UGO: Well, it seems people are playing high school older and older.

JASON: Yeah, I mean, it probably wouldn’t have to take place in high school anyway. But it was such a good cast, and Rob Thomas, I just loved his writing, and it was more than that, he was so talented.

UGO: So aside from the age thing you’d totally do it?

JASON: I mean yeah, it’s a cool thing, man. We enjoyed it. And if Bob was at the helm? And if we had a good script.

UGO: So how did you get from that to Moonlight, which is SUCH a different show?

JASON: Yeah, it was really, really hard. Especially with my character. It was supposed to be an older guy, but we brought it down to be all It was in Joel’s mind I suppose to be a bit younger, and he called me up one day and essentially pushed me to it, and onto the set. And with the help of this guy [points to Alex O'Loughlin], he did my screen test with me, and he was so helpful to me. I was a bit nervous, understandably, and he helped me, he was just there for me at the screen test and he got me up to the challenge.

UGO: Now that you have the job, no one could have possibly expected this type of response.

JASON: I know, man! It’s unbelievable! Some shows didn’t make it through their first season. I was trying to think like, what it is about the show, I think it’s him [pointing to O'Loughlin again], and the tough situations that he’s in, and the fighting, it’s very interesting, the love story, you know what I mean? I think that’s what keeps the women coming back.

UGO: Speaking of the women, you like following the fans and what they’re doing?

JASON: I think we’re always on top of that. There’s a blood drive going on right now, there’s over 4,000 people signed up for it, it’s cool, man. I think that it’s great for someone’s survival. Every time you give blood, somebody NEEDS that. When you donate blood, they use it within two or three weeks. I mean, it’s going to somebody, you know? I gave it a couple of years ago. It’s a bit gnarly, you know?

UGO: How so?

JASON: Oh, dude! What they take, I mean, you notice it. You’re like, “Oh sh*t I’m short a quart!” You can feel it. They don’t let women do it if you’re under like 115 pounds or something. It’s your life blood. But it was cool, man, they give you a bag of chips afterwards, which is great, and a Snickers bar to get your blood sugar back up. [laughs] And even without the candy, it’s someone’s life.

UGO: So do you feel you have a unique perspective on the show now that you’ve given that much blood?

JASON: Oh yeah! You feel like passing out, I felt a little light headed, bro, afterwards. And you think they’re taking this little bit, but then you look over and see the three tubes they’ve taken from you already dude!

UGO: On the other side of that, do you want to do more vampire stuff, like the fighting and the jumping?

JASON: Yeah, totally! I mean we’ll do our own stunts, like sometimes, like in episode 13 we’ll have wires, and jump up and cross, and meet and come down and like, kiss his ass. So it’s really Matrix-esque. And we got cool action scenes coming up.

UGO: So do you geek out about action?

JASON: Yeah dude! I really like it! I mean for one thing, it’s a lot easier to get into. You don’t have to think about acting much, because you’re IN it, dude. And if you’re into the motion of that, you don’t have to think about it, you’re just in it. It’s not hard to think, like, what do I do, you just like, kick his ass.

UGO: Well, who do you think would win in a fight between a minotaur with a battle ax and a centaur with a crossbow?

JASON: A minotaur and a centaur. One of them’s half-horse, one of them’s half-goat? Which one is half-goat?

UGO: The minotaur. Well, it’s half bull. He has the battle ax. The other guy’s got the crossbow.

JASON: It’s scary then, is that guy gonna shoot him through the head with a crossbow? I think close range, dude, that ax guy’s gonna f*ckin’ tear the other guy apart, man. That’s what I think. But there’s that story of, did you hear the story of Custer’s Last Stand? It was on the History Channel, and they [history] made it seem like this really heroic battle? These guys, got their asses handed to them. Him and his guys had the really long range rifles, and they’d shoot once and have to reload, and the Indians had boom-boom-boom-boom, even though they were short distance. The Indians came in, and they were able to tell from the different bullets from the guns, Custer and his guys were dead in like seven or fourteen minutes. Like, gone.

Ugo: insomma vieni da uno show che ha fatto girare la testa a molte fans al femminile e passi ad un altro show che ha nuovamente un gruppo molto sostenuto di fans pazze per lo stesso!

JD: eh lo so, fortunato vero?

Ugo: pensi che tutto questo rumore intorno a Moonlight possa arrivare da Veronica Mars?

JD: Amico non ero così sicuro del successo di Veronica Mars e in qualsiasi momento qualcuno dica la parola “Veronica Mars” sembra alienato. E’ così incredibile aver toccato così tante esistenze. Mi sono sentito davvero forunato in questo teatro. Un’altra cosa davvero bella è l’uscita dei DVD, tutti saranno in rado di vederlo, perfino i loro figli lo vedranno.

Ugo: quindi casomai ci fosse un altro progetto per Veronica Mars, come ad esempio il film, tu parteciperesti?

JD: forse, ma forse stiamo invecchiando per questo, non trovi? Intendo che immagino che se mai si farà, sarà meglio farlo presto.

Ugo: ah bè, sembra che la gente che sta recitando nei licei sia sempre più vecchia.

JD: Si hai ragione, intendo che probabilmente non lo faremo certo al liceo, ad ongi modo. ma è stato un cast così incredibile e Rob thomas, semplicemente adoro quello che scrive, ed è molto di più di una storia, è stato uno scritto così pieno di talento.

Ugo: quindi a parte il problema dell’età credi che davvero lo faresti?

JD: credo proprio di si, è una cosa davvero divertente amico, ci siamo davvero divertiti a farlo. Ci vuole Bob al timone e una bella storia.

Ugo: quindi come sei riuscito ad avere Moonlight, così diverso da questo?

JD: è stata davvero, davvero molto dura. Specialmente col mio personaggio. Doveva essere una persona molto più vecchia ma lo abiamo portato ad essere quello che alla fine era nella testa di Joel,un ragazzo decisamente più giovane, così un giorno mi ha chiamato ed essenzialmente mi ci ha portato dentro, e dentro al set. E con l’aiuto di questo ragazzo ( indicando Alex O’Loughlin ) ha fatto con me la prova sullo schermo, aiutandomi davvero molto, Ero un pò nervoso, cosa abbastanza comprensibile, e lui mi ha davvero aiutato, era li solo per me e la prova sullo schermo e mi ha portato direttamente dentro alla sfida.

Ugo: adesso che hai il lavoro, nessuno si aspettava una risposta così incredibile vero?

JD: davvero amico! E’ da non credere. Non molti shows passano attraverso un successo così nella loro prima stagione. Stavo proprio pensando a cosa sia che piace dello show, penso sia lui (segnando Alex O’Loughlin di nuovo) e tutte le situazioni in cui si trova, e la sua lotta interiore è davvero interessante, oltre alla storia d’amore, sai cosa intendo. credo che sia tutto questo a portare le fans a guardare lo show.

Ugo: parlando delle donne, ti piace seguire le fans e quello che stanno facendo?

JD: penso che siamo al massimo livello in questo. C’è una raccolta di sangue adesso, più di 4000 persone si sono segnate per donare, è davvero stupendo amico. penso sia davvero una gran cosa per la sopravvivenza di qualcun’altro.Ogni volta che doni del sangue, qualcuno HA BISOGNo di questo.Quando doni del sangue lo usano in 2/3 settimane. Intendo sta andando a qualcuno. L’ho fatto qualche anno fa. E’ abbastanza difficile sai.

Ugo: quanto difficile?

JD:Oh amico, intendo quello che ti prendono insomma lo noti. Sei come ” oh cavolo, sono più piccolo di un quarto”, puoi sentirlo. Non lasciano le donne al di sotto dei 50 kg più o meno donare sangue. E’ il tuo sangue vitale. Ma è stato bello amico, ti danno un sacchetto di patatine dopo averlo fatto e una barretta di cioccolata per ridarti gli zuccheri nel sangue (ride) E anche senza queste dolcezze, è la vita di qualcun’altro.

Ugo:quindi senti di avere una diversa prospettiva dello show ora che state donando tutto questo sangue?

JD: decisamente. Ti senti come uno che distribuisce vita,mi sono sentito un pò esaltato, dopo.Pensi che ti stiano prendendo questa piccola cosa, ma poi guardi oltre e vedi che ti hanno già preso tre taniche, amico. (onestamente qui penso che ci sia stato un fraintendimento fra domanda e risposta, l’ho fatta vedere a 2 madrelingua e la pensano come me, quindi direi che la trauzione sia corretta anche se non ha molto senso n.d.r.)

Ugo: dall’altra parte, vorresti fare più cose da vampiro? come le scazzottate e i salti in aria?

JD: Di sicuro! intendo faremo noi stessi le acrobazie come già fatto alcune volte, come nell’episodio 13 dove saremo attaccati ad un filo e saltiamo ed entriamo in conflitto e poi ci incontriamo e ci prendiamo a pedate nel culo…molto stile Matrix. Abbiamo molte scene eletrizzanti in arrivo.

Ugo: quindi sei un fanatico dell’azione?

JD: decisamente amico! mi piace proprio. intendo per il motivo che è molto più facile esserci dentro. Non devi pensare troppo alla recitazione, perchè ci sei già dentro. e se ci sei dentro non ci devi pensare, ci sei semplicemente dentro. Non è difficile pensare che faccio adesso? Devi solo prendere qualcuno a pedate nel culo.

Ugo: bene, chi pensi vincerebbe un combattimento, fra un minotauro con l’ascia di combattimento e un centauro con la balestra?

JD: un minotauro e un centauro. uno di loro è cavallo per metà e l’altro è mezzo uomo e mezzo pecora. qual’è il mezzo pecora?

Ugo: il minotauro.in verità è mezzo toro. e ha l’ascia di combattimento. l’altro ha la balestra.

JD: ah bè, decisamente spaventoso allora,quel ragazzo lo colpirà  in testa con una balestra? Ragazzi, a distanza ravvicinata il ragazzo con l’ascia distruggerebbe l’altro. o almeno così credo!  C’è questa storia, hai sentito della storia di Custers’s Last Stand? L’hanno trasmesso su History channel  e l’hanno fatta sembrare abbastanza eroica no? quei ragazzi avevano le loro vite nelle mani degli altri.Il tizio e i suoi ragazzi avevano dei lunghi fucili, dopo aver sparato una volta dovevano ricaricare, e gli indiano hanno fatto boom, boom, boom, nonostante fossero vicini.Gli indiani arrivarono, e sono stati capaci di rivelare le pallottole esplose, Custer e i suoi ragazzi sono morti entro in una quindicina di minuti. proprio andati!!

UGO: Así que fuiste de un show que enloquecía a las fans,  a otro tremendamente exitoso .

JASON DOHRING: Lo sé . Qué suerte tengo ¿no?

UGO: ¿ Crees que un montón de fans de Moonlight venían de Verónica Mars?

JASON: Tío , no estoy seguro de que el éxito de VM determinara eso. Siempre que alguien dice las palabras  “Verónica Mars,” me vuelvo loco . Me sentí tan bien al ser capaz de emocionar a la gente ,  me sentí muy afortunado . Los DVD´s son geniales  , cualquiera podrá ver la serie y sus hijos , también .

UGO: Entonces , ¿ te embarcarías en otro proyecto relativo a VM , como una película ?

JASON: Quizás , pero nos estamos haciendo un poco mayores , tío. Quiero decir que tendríamos que hacerla pronto , si es que se hiciera.

UGO: Bueno , parece que  gente cada vez más mayor  interpreta a los chicos de instituto.

JASON: Sí, probablemente no se desarrollaría en el instituto de ninguna de las maneras. Fue un buen casting y estaba Rob Thomas . Me gusta mucho lo que escribe y , más que eso , su gran talento.

UGO: Entonces , aparte la edad , lo harías ¿no?

JASON: Sí , es guay , tío . Nos lo pasaríamos  en grande , pero tendría que estar Bob ( Rob Thomas ) al timón y tener un buen guión.

UGO: ¿ Como pasaste de VM  a un show tan diferente como Moonlight ?

JASON: Sí , fue realmente duro . Especialmente con mi personaje. Se suponía que iba a ser un hombre más mayor , pero lo echaron todo abajo porque en la mente de Joel Silver bullía la idea de que fuera más joven . Me llamó un día y me empujó a hacer el papel y en el propio  set .  Y con la ayuda de éste  ( señala a Alex O’Loughlin) leí mi prueba . Me ayudó mucho , porque comprensiblemente  , estaba un poco nervioso . El me ayudó , estuvo en la prueba y me ayudó a superarla.

UGO: Ahora que tienes el trabajo , nadie podría haber esperado este tipo de respuesta .

JASON: Lo sé  , hombre ¡Es increíble ¡Algunas series no pasan de su primera temporada. Estoy pensando qué es lo que tiene el show , y creo que es él [apuntando a O’Loughlin de nuevo ] , y las duras situaciones en las que se ve metido , y la lucha , y la historia de amor ¿ me entiendes ? Creo que todo eso es lo que hace que las mujeres vuelvan .

UGO: Hablando de mujeres , ¿ te gusta que las fans te sigan ? ¿ Qué es lo que hacen ?

JASON: Creo que estamos por encima de todo eso . Hay una campaña de donación de sangre en la que hay cerca de 4.000 personas inscritas. Eso es guay , hombre . Creo que es maravilloso para la supervivencia de cualquiera . Cada vez que das sangre . alguien NECESITA de ella.  Cuando donas tu sangre , la usan entre dos y tres semanas. Quiero decir que va a alguien . Yo doné sangre hace un par de años. Es un poco agresivo , ¿ sabes? 

UGO: ¿ Cómo ?

JASON: Tío , cuando la extraen , lo notas . Estás como “mierda , me falta un cuarto “.Puedes sentirlo . No dejan  donar a las mujeres que  no alcancen un peso mínimo o algo así . La sangre es tu vida. Pero estuvo bien , después de todo . Te dan una bolsa de patatas fritas , cosa que está muy bien , y una barra de Snickers  para que recuperes tu nivel de azúcar en sangre. [ se parte de risa ] Incluso sin que te dieran el dulce , tienes que pensar que estás ayudando a mantener a alguien con vida.

UGO: ¿ Sientes que tienes una nueva vision del show ahora que has donado tanta sangre ?

JASON: ¡ Claro! En cierto modo , sientes que te mueres . Más tarde, me encontraba un poco mareado ¡ Y tú piensas que están tomando sólo un poquito de tu sangre y echas un vistazo y ves tres tubos llenos de sangre que te acaban de extraer!

UGO: Por otra parte ¿ te gustaría hacer más cosas propias de un vampiro como la lucha y los saltos ?

JASON: ¡Sí , por supuesto! Quiero decir que haríamos  nosotros mismos todas las escenas peligrosas . Como en el episodio 13 , tendremos cables y saltaremos  arriba y abajo , aterrizaremos y patearemos unos cuantos culos. Eso es puro estilo “Matrix”.Y  han surgido escenas de acción muy guays .

UGO: Entonces , ¿ eres de los que enloquecen con la acción ?

JASON: Sí , tío . Me gusta mucho Yeah dude! Por una razón , es más fácil meterte dentro . No tienes que pensar en actuar , porque ya estás en ello. No tienes que pensar qué vas a hacer , solo patear culos.

UGO: Bien , ¿ quién crees que ganaría en una lucha entre un minotauro armado con un hacha de guerra  y un centáuro armado con una ballesta ?

JASON: Un minotauro y un centáuro… Uno de ellos es medio-caballo y el otro medio macho cabrío ¿ Cuál de los dos es el medio macho cabrío?

UGO: El minotauro. Bueno , es medio toro .Tiene el hacha de Guerra  y el otro tipo tiene la ballesta.

JASON: Da miedo ¿ ese tío va a dispararle a la cabeza con una ballesta ? Creo que a corta distancia , tío, ese tipo del hacha va a jod*r al otro. Eso es lo que creo . Hay una historia sobre eso ¿ Has escuchado la historia de la última vez que Custer estuvo en pie ? Fue en el History Channel, ¿ y que ellos  [la historia] hicieron que pareciera una batalla heróica? .Él y sus hombres tenían rifles de largo alcance y sólo disparaban una vez y luego tenían que recargar , y los indios sólo tenían que hacer “bum-bum-bum” incluso a corta distancia .Custer y sus hombres estaban muertos en algo así como entre 7 ó 14 minutos . Como borrados del mapa .
