Aol interview with Jason Dohring, April 2008-update

The update of the day is an AOL interview made in April 2008 with Jason Dohring - and Alex O’Loughlin - after the Comic Con in New York, as we all remember that was a very busy time for the Moonlight actors due to the end of the strike and the new 4 episodes.

1. Has it been difficult to wait for word on the show’s renewal?
Alex: It’s really hard, but that’s my life, you know? You may or may not get fired. You kind of get used to it. I think that they will [renew]. I have to think that they’ll pick us up, otherwise I’ll just give up.
Jason: We were always on the bubble for [’Veronica Mars’]. I’m a pro at being worried.

2. What’s your reaction to fans donating blood to save the show?
Alex: They came to me and [said], “We can make it happen if you can come on board.” I was like, “Hell yeah! Absolutely!” So we shot a couple of [PSAs] on set. I’m really excited and really honored to be a part of it.
Jason: I heard that 4,000 people already signed up for it. If I can man up, I’ll make it 4,001. Talk about a useful gift. It’s not like signing a poster — it’s like, “Here, you want some life?”

3. At NY Comic Con, a clip revealed Josef turns Mick back into a vampire. What happens?
Alex: Josef turns Mick back because Beth is in danger. As the result of that decision, he realizes that being a vampire isn’t so bad.
Jason: It’s a very emotional scene. We’ve hired a 30-piece orchestra to do the music. I was stirred up for an hour or two after I saw it and I’m not really that kind of person.

4. Was it weird to shoot such an intimate scene?
Alex: It was intense. You’ve got to get over weird, when you shoot a show like this. As an actor, you have to get over yourself … so you don’t judge the characters you play or the scenarios you find yourself in. I’m forever finding my mouth on men’s necks or wrists, and yes, it is bizarre, but I am used to it.

5. What else can we expect from the rest of the season?
Jason: In Episode 16, the vampires are all going to meet, from different walks of life — a vampire conference. We all get together and talk about how were going to deal with this and in what way each of us can deal with it through our position on the social spectrum.

7. When is Josef going to kick some butt?
Jason: Next episode. We go off and kick some a** together. It’s like ‘Butch Cassidy and Sundance Kid,’ where we break through doors. There are some stunts in this one that are just awesome. There’s this one thing that is ‘Matrix’-inspired where there are two wires up to the top where my character and another guy meet up and cross together and come down. It’s like really bada**.

8. Will we ever see Josef’s ‘Sleeping Beauty,’ Sarah, again?
Jason: In Episode 16, you’ll see a memorial being built for her and then there’s possibly more love interest stuff that comes out with Josef. And [he and Mick] share emotional troubles so I guess it’s like ‘Oprah’ but with ‘Moonlight.’ Vampire therapy.

1. E’ difficile aspettare la decisione per il rinnovo dello show?

Alex O’Loughlin: Sono venuti da me e [hanno detto]:”Possiamo riuscirci se ti unisci a noi”. Ero tipo: “Diavolo sì! Assolutamente!” così abbiamo girato un paio di [appelli] sul set. Sono davvero emozionato e davvero onorato di farne parte.Jason Dohring: Ho sentito che 4.000 persone si sono già iscritte per questo. Se avrò il coraggio, sarò il 4.001. Quando si parla di un regalo utile. Non è come autografare un poster — è come “Qui, vuoi un po’ di vita?”

3. Alla NY Comic Con, un filmato ha rivelato che Josef ritrasformerà Mick in un vampiro. Cosa succederà?

Alex O’Loughlin: Josef ritrasformerà Mick in un vampiro perché Beth sarà in pericolo. Come risultato di questa decisione, capirà che essere un vampiro non è poi così male.Jason Dohring: E’ una scena davvero emotiva. Abbiamo preso un’orchestra di 30 elementi per suonare la musica. Sono stato scombussolato per un ora o due dopo averla vista e non sono davvero quel tipo di persona.

4. E’ stato strano girare una scena così intima?

Alex O’Loughlin: E’ stato intenso. Impari ad andare oltre le stranezze, quando giri uno show come questo. Da attore, devi andare oltre te stesso … quindi non giudichi i personaggi che intepreti nel contesto in cui ti trovi dentro. Mi troverò in futuro con la bocca sul collo o sui polsi di un uomo e, sì, è bizzarro, ma mi ci sono abituato.

5.Cos’altro possiamo aspettarci dal resto della stagione?

Jason Dohring: Nell’episodio 16, i vampiri si incontreranno, da diverse estrazioni sociali — una riunione di vampiri. Ci riuniremoinsieme e parleremo di come lo gestiremo e in che modo ognuno di noi può gestirlo attraverso la propria posizione nella scala sociale.

6.Come si evolverà la relazione tra Mick e Beth?

Alex O’Loughlin: Sono pronti per procedere. Stanno uscendo abbastanza a lungo per procedere. E’questione di tempo, penso.

7. Josef quando prenderà a calci qualche sedere?

Jason Dohring: Nel prossimo episodio (n.d.T.: 1×13 - Fated To Pretend).  Scatteremo e prenderemo a calci qualche c*** insieme. E’ come “Butch Cassidy e Sundance Kid”, dove irromperemo dalla porta.  Ci sono alcune scene d’azione in questo che sono semplicemente meravigliose. C’è questa cosa che è in stile “Matrix” dove ci sono due cavi legati al soffitto dove il mio personaggio e un altro tipo si incontrano e si incrociano e atterrano. E’ veramente caz****.

8. Rivedremo mai la “Sleeping Beauty” di Josef, Sarah, di nuovo?

Jason Dohring: Nell’episodio 16, vedrete un monumento che verrà costruito in suo ricordo e c’è la possibilità di una tresca per Josef. E [lui e Mick] condivideranno alcuni problemi emotivi, quindi penso sia tipo “Oprah” ma con “Moonlight”. Terapia tra vampiri.
